Luise Olsen née Misch

born in Berlin on April 28, 1878
Persecuted person and Helper

Luise Blau came from a Jewish family and lived in Berlin-Wilmersdorf during the Second World War. Marrying the Danish citizen Kai Olsen in 1939 initially protected her from persecution. Her sister Fedora Curth managed to escape to Switzerland in November 1942.
From July 1939 to September 1942, Olsen took Elisabeth Goldschmidt into her home and apparently also supported the Jewish former teacher financially, providing considerable funds. Goldschmidt went underground on December 7, 1942, to evade deportation. During her first weeks in hiding, she spent several days with Luise Olsen. She had to change her location frequently so as not to be recognized. On July 3, 1943, Goldschmidt managed to escape to Switzerland with the aid of Luise Meier, an acquaintance of Olsen’s, and helpers from the border region of Baden.
Meanwhile, Luise Olsen herself was in danger. On April 6, 1943, presumably aided by her Danish husband, she was able to emigrate to Denmark.
In 1951 Luise Olsen confirmed that she had given Elisabeth Goldschmidt 6,700 marks for forged papers, escape fees, and bribes for a Gestapo informer.
