Gertrud Raszkowski

born in Berlin on March 8, 1890 – died in Berlin on August 28, 1983
Persecuted person
Gertrud Raszkowski, 1946.

Gertrud Raszkowski learned a commercial trade. She worked as an accountant from 1922 to 1936, then lost her job since she was Jewish. Whereas her brother escaped to Australia in 1939, she was unable to emigrate in time. Up to 1941 she managed to earn her living as a single woman by providing correspondence services. From the beginning of 1941, she performed forced labor for AEG.
When Gertrud Raszkowski found her apartment in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg sealed on her return there on the evening of January 30, 1943, she went into hiding in the home of Max and Friedel Knitter in Berlin-Tiergarten, where she had previously often gone in times of danger.
The non-Jewish couple also sheltered Gertrud Thierfelder and her daughter Vera. The three women remained there until the building was destroyed in November 1943. For more than a year, Gertrud Raszkowski then found refuge with Luise Nickel in her house in Strausberg. Other persecuted Jews also stayed there, including Alice Löwenthal.
Gertrud Raszkowski survived and lived in Berlin-Reinickendorf after her liberation.
