Peter Rogers né Denny Rosenbaum

born on February 9, 1941 – died in Redwood City, California on October 22, 2004
Persecuted person

On December 8, 1942, when Denny Rosenbaum was not yet two years old, he had to go underground with his parents. In the spring of 1943 they were taken in by Anna Uppendahl in the village of Summt, north of Berlin. There, Denny’s parents met Irma Dumke, who was the same age as them. When they were betrayed by an acquaintance, they found refuge with Agnes Pohl and her daughter Angela in Wilhelmshagen near Berlin. After two months they returned to Summt. Irma Dumke arranged for them to stay with her neighbor Hildegard Linke, not mentioning that they were Jews in hiding. During the day, the Rosenbaums spent most of their time in Irma Dumke’s home. From September 1944 until the end of the war, they lived with Elisabeth Augustin, an acquaintance in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg.
In May 1946, the Jewish family emigrated to the United States, where they changed their names to Henry, Greta, and Peter Rogers. Peter’s parents returned to Berlin in 1970.
