Elisabeth Weeg

born on February 17, 1897
Helper

Elisabeth and Ludwig Weeg ran a farm in Lohmar, around 15 miles (25 km) southeast of Cologne. They had three children.
On the request of their friends Albert and Maria Meier from Lohmar, they took in the endangered Bernauer family at the start of 1945, having previously supported them with food. Nanny Bernauer was Jewish and had to report to the Cologne-Müngersdorf assembly camp with her daughter Karola in September 1944. They were able to escape. When the Bernauers were no longer safe in the Meier family’s house, they found refuge on the Weegs’ nearby farm. The Weegs passed them off as a bombed-out family. Bernauer’s daughter Erna Nussbaum and her non-Jewish husband Heinrich eventually joined them on the farm. They returned to Troisdorf after their liberation.
In 1990 Elisabeth and Ludwig Weeg, the Meiers, and their daughter Käthe Overath were honored as Righteous Among the Nations by the Israeli Holocaust memorial center Yad Vashem.
