Wanda Krahelska, after 1945.

The artist and publisher Wanda Krahelska lived in Warsaw. In 1938 she supported Jews expelled from the German Reich as part of the “Polish Action.” After Warsaw’s occupation by the German Wehrmacht in 1939, she worked for the Polish underground under the code name “Alina.” She mainly helped persecuted Jews.
In September 1942 Wanda Krahelska and Zofia Kossak founded an aid organization for persecuted Jews – the Tymczasowy Komitet Pomocy Żydom. Three months later, it gave rise to the underground organization Żegota (Council to Aid Jews). Up until their liberation, Krahelska repeatedly hid Jews escaped from the Warsaw ghetto in her apartment. She also found hiding places for other endangered Jews, supported them financially, and obtained forged documents for them.
Wanda Krahelska was honored as Righteous Among the Nations by the Israeli Holocaust memorial center Yad Vashem in 1967.
