Tadeusz Rek, Warsaw, around 1939.

The Warsaw lawyer Tadeusz Rek was a leading activist in the Stronnictwo Ludowe (People’s Party). After the German invasion of Poland in 1939, he supported the banned peasant movement Ruch Ludowy “Roch.” Rek was arrested by the Gestapo in 1940 and put into Pawiak prison. He was then held in various concentration camps. On his release in 1942, he returned to Warsaw. From January 1943 to July 1944, he was vice-president of the Żegota aid organization. He mainly obtained funding and provided Jews in hiding with forged documents and illicit accommodation. Rek and his wife Wanda hid Jews escaped from the Warsaw ghetto in their apartment.
Tadeusz Rek was honored as Righteous Among the Nations by the Israeli Holocaust memorial center Yad Vashem in 1981.
