Szlomo Kornblum

born in Powązki on 1894 – died on 1943
Persecuted person
Szlomo Kornblum, Warsaw, 1936.

Szlomo Kornblum lived in Warsaw with his wife Lonia and his two sons Izaak and Borus. He was a writer, and also made and sold handbags and other leather goods to earn a living.
In 1940 the Kornblums had to move into the Warsaw ghetto. When the ghetto was later walled off, Kornblum lost many customers and encountered financial difficulties. He had to give up his business and perform forced labor in a tailor’s shop. When the ghetto was raided, Kornblum and his family fled to hiding places they had built. Although he had little money himself, Kornblum provided financial support to people in need in the ghetto.
In 1942 Lonia Kornblum was deported to an extermination camp. Kornblum then organized his younger son Borus’s escape from the ghetto. His older son Izaak also escaped in 1943. Szlomo Kornblum was murdered during the uprising in the Warsaw ghetto shortly after. His sons survived the war in hiding.
