Fancia Grün worked as a secretary for Berlin’s Jewish Community, where one of her tasks was to write deportation lists. Like her friend Werner Scharff, she was therefore informed about upcoming deportations. On June 10, 1943, she and Werner Scharff went into hiding. It is not known where Fancia Grün hid at this time. In July, Fancia Grün and Werner Scharff were arrested and deported to the Theresienstadt ghetto on August 4, 1943. After four weeks, they managed to escape. They then hid with the Winkler family in Luckenwalde.
Werner Scharff and Hans Winkler decided to help Jews and call for resistance against the Nazi regime in flyers. They founded the Community for Peace and Reconstruction resistance group. Its approximately 30 members were friends of the two founders. Fancia Grün also took part in the group’s campaigns.
The group was discovered by the Gestapo in the fall of 1944. Fancia Grün was arrested outside Treptow town hall in Berlin in October 1944 and initially held in Alexanderplatz prison. She was murdered in the “Small Fortress” in Theresienstadt on March 3, 1945.
