Meta Kamp grew up in Göttingen in a social democratic family and trained as a seamstress. She was actively involved in the socialist Friends of Nature movement. She married in 1927 and had three children. Meta Kamp later joined the Bund Union for a Socialist Life. Her friend Hedwig Gehrke was also a Bund member. She and Meta Kamp took turns to hide the Jewish Marianne Strauß in their homes during 1943 and 1944. Strauß had managed to evade being picked up by the Gestapo in Essen.
Meta Kamp also helped foreign forced laborers in Göttingen. She hid her sixteen-year-old son to prevent him being sent back to the front as a Wehrmacht soldier after a war injury.
After the war, Meta Kamp was an active SPD member. She was a city councilor in Göttingen from 1956 to 1964. In 2004 she was posthumously honored as Righteous Among the Nations.
