Helmut Wolf lived in Berlin with his wife Ruth. After commercial training, he worked as a sales representative for various companies. He performed forced labor from June 1940 to the end of 1942. When their mothers were deported, Helmut and Ruth Wolf went underground at the start of January 1943. They were initially able to stay with their old acquaintances Agnes and Albert Zeckzer. Over the next two and a half years, they had to change hiding places frequently. They stayed in a range of places in Berlin and the surrounding area: farms, basements, apartments, attics, and garden houses.
From July 1943, Ruth and Helmut Wolf hid in the home of Adele Rybarz. Kurt and Hertha Chlebos sheltered them in Schulzendorf near Eichwalde from January to October 1944. Kurt Chlebos worked in Berlin and met the Wolfs on the way to Schulzendorf. When he found out they had nowhere to stay, he offered to take them in. The Wolfs stayed inside the house at all times during the day, only going into the garden at night. They were denounced by a neighbor but managed to escape. On one occasion, they narrowly evaded arrest.
Helmut and Ruth Wolf experienced their liberation in Berlin and emigrated to the United States in 1946.
