Nikolay Gerasimchik, Shubkiv (Szubków), undated.

Nikolay Gerasimchik was born in the village of Szubków (today Shubkiv) in 1929. He lived on the small family farm with his parents Pavel and Lyubov and his two older sisters Galina and Klavdiya.
Starting in September 1942, Nikolay Gerasimchik’s father Pavel hid a Jewish family in the barn on their farm. The Khomut family had fled the ghetto and barely escaped the mass shooting of the Jews in the neighboring town of Tuczyn (today Tuchyn).
Nikolay Gerasimchik helped his father care for the family. He kept watch when those in hiding went outside at night to get fresh air. In February 1944 the region was liberated from German occupation and the Jewish family could leave their hiding place.
Nikolay Gerasimchik was honored by the Israeli Holocaust memorial Yad Vashem as Righteous Among the Nations in 1999.
