Pavel Gerasimchik, Shubkiv (Szubków), undated.

Pavel Gerasimchik lived with his wife Lyubov and their children Klavdiya, Galina, and Nikolay, as well as their foster daughter Zinaida in Szubków (today Shubkiv). He owned a small farm.
German troops occupied the region in July 1941. The Jews from the neighboring town of Tuczyn (today Tuchyn) were forced to live in a ghetto. In September 1942, Pavel Gerasimchik helped his Jewish friend Isaak Khomut and his family to escape from the ghetto. Gerasimchik hid Polina Khomut and the seven-year-old Laura under the straw in his cart and secretly brought them to his farm. Isaak Khomut joined them a few days later. Only a short time later, the Jews in the ghetto were shot.
Pavel Gerasimchik prepared an underground hiding place in the barn for the family and provided food for them. In February 1944 the area was liberated from German occupation. Gerasimchik continued to support the family until they emigrated.
In 1990, the Israeli Holocaust memorial Yad Vashem honored Pavel Gerasimchik as Righteous Among the Nations.
